Stone, Michael, M.A.

Michael Stone is the Virginia Coordinator for the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. The former Director of the Office of Justice & Peace for the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, he has worked for 29 years in social ministry for the Catholic Church in Rhode Island, Maine, and Virginia.

Michael has been responsible for the administration of a wide range of church social ministry programs – ranging from disabilities ministry and refugee services to Haiti twinning and Respect Life work. He has provided training & educational resources to pastors & parish leaders and worked with many social service agencies as well as many community coalitions.

He has worked on issues as diverse as economic justice, affordable housing, abortion, stem cell research, assisted suicide, globalization, fair trade, immigration reform, capital punishment, and socially responsible investment. Michael currently serves on the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy’s board of directors.

Michael earned two Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Urban Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.A. degree in Pastoral Ministry from Boston College.
